Christmas inspiration, gifts and styling

Posted By The Man on November 7th, 2011

I came up with this idea for Christmas 2010 and it’s one of my favourite festive crafts:
Take skewers and paint them with craft paint (buy little containers for R5 from the Crafters market).
Google various Christmas shapes and clipart and print them out onto some coloured and white scrap paper or cardboard.
Alternatively source stars and shapes from scrap shops.
Cut out the shapes and using a glue gun or glue stick adhere them to the skewers.
They can be used for strawberries (to dip into little pails of chocolates), cheese or just for general décor. Also pop marshmallows or mini donuts onto the skewers for the kids to dip into chocolate and serve them something fun instead of traditional un-friendly Christmas fare, like mince pies and Christmas cake or pudding.
Clever ways to give your gifts a festive sparkle: Add scrap rub-ons and stickers or alternatively glue gun Woolworth’s chocolate balls onto the gift or bag in the shape of a tree.

Festive downloads: beautiful bunting, magical matches and clever cocktail tags.

Chocolate Celebration Torte

Posted By The Man on September 1st, 2011

I have had so many queries about the photo of the chocolate tart, featured on my Christmas course menu.

I Used the photo only for the festive element , but now I am indulging you with this scrumptious recipe.

I presented this tart on my 2010 Christmas course and it was so popular that it featured on many a dinner party table way before Christmas.

It is amazing, velvety, dark and incredibly rich, and therefore easily yields 14 slices.

In true COOK style, it is made in minutes and I placed it the freezer last year so that it was ready to slice in under 2 hours.

Garnish with  fresh raspberries or add a festive  gold by dusting. For this, be sure to only use  CRYSTAL GOLD glitter.

Although it looks white, it has a mother-of-pearl glisten and when dusted onto the dark chocolate looks spectacular.
